Road Race Results HC B
The boys did very well in the Time Trial. They are gradually getting closer to a top ten finish!
In the Road Race, Pete lasted two laps with the main bunch before getting dropped and having to do the last two laps on his own.
Nigel was with the first pack for the first three laps but unfortunately punctured with one lap to go. A real shame as he was up there and mixing it with the main players.
No doubt he will bounce back next time.
Well done guys. Again you have represented Australian Handcycling admirably!

WHF World Cup - Tour of Britain Race LONDON 3rd September
Sunday September 3rd
Nigel Barley and Peter Allen participated in the London World Handcycling Federation World Cup Event on Sunday September 3rd.
This race was included in their programs as a lead up event to the World Championships in Aigle, Switzerland in mid September.
Both athletes raced well with a Peter finding the initial pace a bit too hard but chased hard to finish fifth in his category.
Nigel stayed with the main pack till a half lap to go and broke away with Sternath and Skzryspinki. Nigel was unlucky to finish second to Skzryspinksi in the sprint to the line.
All in all a good hit out and hard training sesion to finalise their preparation for the upcoming World Championships. All the best with it boys!
Also, a belated congratulations to Nigel Barley on his Sports Star of the Year Award from the Western Australian Disabled Sports Association.

Handcycling -Team Mastercard - 24 Hour World Record Attempt
Every now and again, I am fortunate enough to witness an effort by athletes that transcends the limits of what is thought to be humanly possible.
On Saturday the 24th September, 2005, 6 athletes who formed the Mastercard Handcycling Team, set off from the Hotel Chariot in Alsmeer, Amsterdam to tackle a circuit of the Zuiderzeeroute/Rondje IJsselmeer in the Netherlands. A lap is 388km. The plan was to break the current record of 411km set last year by a Belgian athlete Didier Simon. (N.B. this record was set in the relative comfort of a motor racing circuit)
As you would expect, there was a fair degree of apprehension on the days leading up to this enormous challenge. There was a noticeable amount of anxiety exhibited by all.
Fear of the unknown about tackling the challenge of cycling over 400km, virtually non stop in a handbike, was weighing heavily on the minds of the riders...
